If she had taken the vows and stayed in the convent, she might have been given a religious name. Her death might have been registered under that name and not her birth one.
If she had died in 1872 when Stephen arrived in Wanganui, why didn't Estevan marry Emily then instead of waiting another ten years.
Does Vic death indexes have place of birth. Seem to remember they have parents names. Wondering if there are any women with parents names as Spanish.

ian,
You make a good point. I feel she may not have died until around 1882. But without knowing her name it is hard to check. She may well have used her maiden name and not her married name.Even just a hint of her first name might help.
There were only three deaths of women aged 40-42 in 1882 for surnames starting BEL and one, Rosannah Bellamy aged 42, with parents unknown might be worth looking at. No deaths in 1881 in the right age range with surname starting BEL.
regards
Robyn

I'm still following this interesting post .
Ian, Would there be any information on Estevan Bellve's Naturalization Record, that would be of some help.
I looked at the marriage on the IGI (Robyn Reply 18) for Ignasia Bellve and Franco Riu, I clicked on Source Information: These records have been filmed by LDS. If you live near a LDS Center perhaps you could order Films to view in their reading room. Just a thought .
Robyn, The death for Rosannah Bellamy, I tried working back to see if I could find any more information for her. I'm not 100% sure but, I think she may have been Roseanna Kelly who married John Bamford 1859 = Reg 1204, then she married Charles Bellamy in 1874 = Reg 2457.
What do you think??.

Sarra,
I think you may well be right and it is Roseanna Kelly/Bamford/Bellamy. Interesting that no family details are given on her death registration. She was only 42 she had several children and the eldest I can find would have been 18 when she died.
Rose Anna Kelly had 7 children with Charles Bellamy from 1864-1878 although the marriage did not take place until 1874.
So not the person we are looking for.

Nothing on list of Persons Naturalised in NZ Pre 1948 for Estevan Bellve. Joseph Soler is there, in 1869. He was from Constante in Spain.
Martin Ruis was there also, in 1890, but he was Mexican.
Not getting very far. She has always been elusive, but there must be some record of her somewhere.

Just a comment. I have quite often found when there is no parental information and no place of death recorded, that the death has taken place in a public hospital and the informant is often the hospital porter and the deceased is invariably buried at Melbourne General Cemetery.

We know Stephen went to Australia a few times after 1904 when he and his family shifted up to the Hokianga, north of Auckland. It was thought to have been Melbourne he went to.
Just found in the NSW Unassisted Immigration a Bellve going from Hokianga to Sydney on the Inga, a Norwegian ship. His intials were W, he was aged 50 and went as the cabin boy. This is definitely Stephen as the age fits, and also family have confirmed he went as a cabin boy.
So just wondering if he was visiting rellies in Sydney or just went for a holiday. He brought back clothes and all sorts of things for his family, plus a lot of furniture, which unfortunately was found to be full of termites and was burned in a big bonfire on the beach. The fullsize slate topped billiard table was alright though.

Have just had further information from the family that the photo of the woman on the bed was definitely taken at a convent in Melbourne.
Anybody know what convents there would have been in Melbourne in the 1870s and 1880s.
