William CLARKE from Rougham
« on: Saturday 20 June 09 23:17 UTC (UK) »

Hi folks

I'm trying to find where William Clarke is hiding in 51, 61 and 71. Huh Huh

William was born in Rougham in Suffolk which is in Thingoe registration district Jan-Mar 1845.

In 1881 he is single lodging with the Sewell family in Rougham and is a blacksmith.

He married Amelia Willingham in Thingoe registration district Jul-Sep 1882.

In 1891 the family is living in Rougham.

In 1901 they have moved to Beyton, the next village.

He is consistent with the information given to the enumerator.

I reckon he will probably be a blacksmith's apprentice in 1861 and a blacksmith in 71, but I'm unable to find him.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Mark Smiley

Do you have a copy of his birth cert showing his parents names?

There are a number of that name in Suffolk but none showing Rougham.

Ricky

You star Grin Grin Grin Grin

Thank you so much.... that has cleared that side of the family up for 41 and 51.

In 81 he was staying with the Sewells in Rougham, who both came from Castleacre, Norfolk. And the following year he married unmarried mother Amelia Willingham. In 71 the Sewells are in Ely... having a blitz through there on the offchance he was there also.

He was only a step-family, but it is nice to fill the gaps.

Thank you Grin

Hi Mark

Sophia may have died, as there is a couple of Death regs for a Sophia Clarke

Sophia Clarke
1857
June Quarter
Thingoe
Suffolk
vol 4a
page 275

also a this one

Sophia Clarke
1850
Dec Quarter
thingoe
Suffolk

vol 13
page 393

No age given for any of them, so I think the second one may be the daughter from the 1841 census

Yes she was aged 80 in 1891 on living with her widowed daughter.

This may be relevant
Death 1859 Oct-Dec
Thomas    Clark in Thingoe jurisdiction

Hi

Because Matilda is living as headon Great Green in 61 [the family home], I reckon the deaths 57 and 59 are Sophia and Thomas.
As an Ag Lab family, I'm sure they would have appeared somewhere in England in subsequent censuses had they been alive.

Now it is just William Clarke b 1845 to find in 61 and 71 Huh Huh Huh Huh
