One last try to find the elusive Finlay Jackson born 1851
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 20:57 UTC (UK) »

This is positively my last attempt to find out what happened to Finlay Jackson
my g.g. uncle. I have a possible reference to a him emigrating to Canada which I have mentioned previously. Possibly bound for Montreal. Finlay was born in Ardrishaig Argyll, Scotland in 1851. Last sighting I have of him is in 1871 census for that area, aged 18 (a fisherman by trade and unmarried). Father John Jackson, mother Flora Jackson (M.N. McNair). If the emigration reference turns out  in fact to be  unrelated to him then I am pretty sure he died in the U.K. As a fisherman he may have worked alongside his elder brother George who owned a small fishing boat called Gleniffer. If Finlay died at sea and his body was possibly never recovered would his death be recorded anywhere other than on a standard death certificate? As it stands there is no record of a marriage or death for Finlay in the U.K as far as I can ascertain. Has anybody got any ideas?

If he died in a fishing accident or some kind of accident at sea, his death may be recorded under the Marine register.  There's not a lot of info. on these deaths. just where and when he died.

Hi
I see from Wilson Family Tree on Ancestry, that Finlay's mother Flora died 1884 in Sunderland, Durham, could Finlay have also moved to the Sunderland area and remained there?
