The details are only pay per view but the search is free.

The best candidate I can find is a John Henry Ambrose age 62, born Manchester, in an institution in Prestwich registration district, who seems to be a confectioner.

There's a possible death registration
John H Ambrose age 75
Mar 1922 Chorlton 8c 976

That certainly sounds like our man,yes he definitely was a Confectioner.

Probably after losing 2 wives, and the children so young, he lost it (so to speak)

I couldn't find the info you talk about re the Institution, can you tell me what it is please Tati

Sorry, I don't know which institution it was - I don't have access to the census details.
I seem to vaguely recall that Institutions aren't (yet) named anyway but someone will know better than me.

The free search suggests that there were ca. 30 people in the institution, all males. Census place seems to be Crumpsall. I'm guessing it was a workhouse or a hospital.

This could finalize my searching for the Ambrose family, I wonder if you could check the 1911 census for Evelyn b. 1890 and Ernest b. 1891 then please?

I've tried to get on to this site, and have had no luck, thought you might be able to assist, for the last time !!

Odd, that - Eveline Ambrose age 20 comes up in Manchester district when I do a search. Looking at other people in the same household, there's a 29 year old Ernest Ambrose - makes you wonder whether it's a mistake and he should really be 19!
