Archive.org Resource for Cheshire History with registers
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 14:48 UTC (UK) »

If you have never visited this site before there are a wealth of digitised books relating to Cheshire here are just a few of the wonderful resources available:
Several books of Lancs and Cheshire Wills from the Eccelsiastical Court of Chester
The Account of the Ancient Town of Frodsham
A list of freeholders in Cheshire, also contains a list of Wills from the 1600's
The Registers (parish) of Upton in Overchurch, Cheshire, 1600 to 1812
Cheshire and Lancashire Funeral Certificates 1600 to 1678
Marriage Licences granted within the archdeaconary of Chester 1606 to 1616 and a further volume covering 1624 and 1632
General Interest:
Results of the 1851 census of Great Britain - this contains how the census was conducted and some very interesting statistical analysis of the results.
Happy Reading

Hi, Celia, did you try the text section on the front page of the site?  For example if you type in parish registers, england you will be given a choice of over 100 books of registers.  Quite a lot of the Phillimore registers are included.
I hope this helps

I have heard of Phillimore, but didn't know what they were,Just had a brows round the site. I haven't used a site like it before, can you download images of B.M.D for a particular church, say in Cheshire.

Hi, Celia, the only Cheshire BMD I found was the Overchurch one mentioned in my first post on this subject.  What you can do is download the whole book or just print off the page that you are interested in.  I haven't found any scans of original entries.
I just put in parish registers in the search box, england and a long list came up.  It has a massive amount of books that are of use to we Family History Hunters.  The site seems to list books as genealogy, england if you try that in the search field you may have more luck.  There are books on Cheshire families as well.
Good Hunting
