Hi Dawn,

- Shame Norman just missed the 1911 census! I'm afraid it looks like you will need the birth certificate to discover his parents - unless your father in law can remember older siblings of Norman.

- Do you know when Eleanor Ruby died? I can't find a birth for her at all - the death index should show us her birth date or at least her age at death

- When was their first child born? (Don't post a name, just a birth year please)

Sorry - questions but no answers!  Tongue

not much info i can add i1m afraid. he doesn't have much contact and cant remember names etc.

my father in law is a twin and they were born in 1945
2 older sisters they are a lot older than him but i cant give exact dates.

1 is about 10 years older and the other is approx 13- 15 years older.

his mum died when he was quite young so again approx 1955 - 1965

i have my father in law short birthday certificate and my in laws marriage certificate. dont know if i can get any info from them, i am a complete novice. trust me to pick the hardest ones to start with

If it's any comfort, I don't think this looks any more difficult than other families so far (although it would be a great help to have more precise dates).

To start with, this is a matter of trawling through BMD indexes to find Norman and Eleanor's marriage. From there, you should be able to purchase the marriage cert which should shows their ages and father's names which in turn, hopefully, will allow us to identify their families in the 1911 census.

Must say I'm not having much luck so far. I've searched 1929 - 1934 for a marriage and couldn't find one for a Norman C Sutton at all  Tongue

If we suppose that the 1906 born Eleanor is correct (you'll need the marriage cert to confirm though, and to help us with Norman), then we can start tracing her back. Looks like her parents were Reuben born ca. 1867 and Annie born ca. 1862.

Do you have access to the censuses?  Smiley

You should be able (hopefully) to get back to 1841 with your ancestry subscription.

Just shout if you get stuck  Smiley
