THOMAS HUDSON and MARTHA BRADLEY married in Rise, on the 8th February, 1785. Their daughter Elizabeth was born on the 9th March, 1789.
Can anyone help me with information about Thomas and Martha BEFORE their marriage ? I would like to know where they came from (Thomas may have come from Beverley, but I'm not sure.)
Elizabeth Hudson married Marmaduke Stephenson (b.1780), and they lived at North Frodingham. He was a farmer, and his children married into the prolific Hebb and Witty families, among others.
Many thanks.

Hello Jill -
I haven't seen it yet. I've got a couple of marriage thingies on the way, and I think this is one of them, but I'm not sure without looking. I was exploring Hudsons from around the area of Rise, and it seemed that Beverley was a likely starting point. Hudsons seem to have been quite abundant in that area from early on. My over-active imagination has probably got the better of me, and if you know anything sensible, please feel free to let me in on it. All this is a welcome distraction from the heat.
Best wishes,
Francis

Hello Jill -
I apologise for the flippant referral to a 'thingy' ... I blame the heat! (I am also consitently surprised at just how helpful people are, and it always rather takes me by surprise.) The Treasure House didn't use any terminology when I asked for a copy of the marriage record between Marmaduke Stephenson (snr) and Ann Jefferson, who were married in Nafferton in 1768. 'Thingy' was the only word that came to what I call my mind. Marmaduke S and Ann J are my most recent marriage record request, so your kind offer to look up Thomas Hudson and Martha Bradley is very much appreciated. Any info about them most welcome.
Beverly is simply a hunch, as there seem to be a good few Hudsons from there. (I treated myself to a nice copy of Robert Morden's 1695 East Riding map, and this puts things very much into context the further back one gets.)
Thank you also for the baptism dates of Elizabeth's siblings.
As I keep mentioning, it is such a surprise to have found family - let alone family where I had absolutely no idea that it existed - that I am still rather dazed by it all. My approach to research is still sadly unmethodical.
Your kind help is very much appreciated. All the best -
Warmly (!!) Francis

Jill, hello again - Some further info. THOMAS HUDSON was born c1754, and his burial took place in North Frodingham on 19th July, 1841 - so he would have made the census, just! I will have a look at it. MARTHA BRADLEY was born c.1756, then buried in Rise on the 15th March, 1814. Martha's father was GEORGE BRADLEY who came from Malton. (I have no dates.) Phew! F

You are a star. Thanks so much. It helps enormously, if only to add a few more names to the cast list of this 'everyday story of country folk' .... For me, I find the knowledge of the names (and where they appear) almost more interesting than knowing their precise relationships. I shall continue to dig.
Many thanks again.
All the best - Francis
