Hi Dawn,

Would you be kind enough to look for any Herbertson families in Galashiels in 1851?
Parents Andrew (aged 40 or so) and Euphemia (aged 38), and 6 children.
There may also be and Adam Herbertson and his wife Isabel.  (They are the older generation).

Thanks

Hi dawn
Your offer was taken up with a vengeance!  I'm stuck with the Rutherford side of my family. My G-grandmother was Mary Ann Rutherford born around 1845. On one census she says in Galashiels; in another specifically Torwoodlee. Her father was Thomas Rutherford married to Betsy McMorran. I cannot find out anything more. He was a coachman so I guess he may have been employed on the Pringle estate. They may have had another daughter Janet?
If you could turn this cul-de-sac into a through road I would appreciate it. Mary Ann and her husband George Oman lived in Hawick for a few years where he was a photographer then moved back to Edinburgh.

Hi Runner,
I've looked for a Mary Ann Rutherford and a Thomas Rutherford on the 1851 census for Galashiels and Selkirk but they aren't there at that time. Sorry, let me know if i can be of more help.

Huh

Thanks for the time and effort Dawn. My great grandmother is proving elusive.
I have found a Pringle of Torwoodlee Will on scotlandspeople. Its a long shot but he might have left something to his staff!
Isn't our hobby challenging?
