Where is St. Newlyn In Pyder ?
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 20:44 UTC (UK) »

I think it's probably in Shropshire/Salop but googling comes up with Cornwall but a slightly different spelling...

It does look as though it is Cornwall with the slightly different spelling. Nothing seems to show for Shropshire.

Thanks for that and not out of turn at all but I'm looking for somewhere of this name in Shropshire as Cornwall was a very long way from Shropshire back then
Thank you x

Hi again,
I don't know how far you are going back but amazingly people did manage to travel about.
Have you looked through towns and parishes in Shropshire?
Looking at GENUKI - there is a St Julian parish in Shrewsbury which could stretch to a poor version of St Newlyn but the 'in Pyder' is difficult to interpret for Shropshire as far as I can see.
regards

thanks Heywood.

We are talking late 1700 early 1800 but I can't find any connection of St Newlyn in Pyder with Shropshire even though one Pallot (wife) states that was the area of marriage but the other (husband) states Great Ness which is where the family were at the time

Thank you

I am just looking at your other post about the couple.

Family Search has the extracted marriage which you quote 19 June 1832 Great Ness.

Where have you seen the other reference?

The 1841 census shows both George and Elizabeth born in the county (Shropshire)  Huh

sorry- no it doesn't. My membership isn't that comprehensive.

I am hoping that this is Elizabeth in 1851
HO107; Piece: 1991; Folio: 260; Page: 13

which shows her born Great Ness which fits in with the marriage details on Family Search.

Well I would speculate that it is an error - transcription or something.

The evidence from other sources supports Great Ness and I would try to follow from there if I were you.

Does your membership include UK census?  My membership is UK only so not sure - I know that worldwide did used to include UK.

I did it by looking for Weston born Great Ness- just to see.

You can go to 1851 census and look for Elizabeth Weston born 1807 Great Ness and she comes up.

Ancestry has become very difficult at times. If you go to 1851 census and enter Elizabeth Weston and click - you get the various UK country censuses.
Then go to England and enter the reference I gave you - you will see the place to do so at the bottom of the search page and it should work.  Wink
