Completed Grouty's Lane, St George
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 21:54 BST (UK) »

I have found an ancestor living at the above address in 1911.  I can't find it on any recent street guide or on a directory in 1897.

Has anyone heard of it please?

Thank you in advance.

?,

Have you "wandered about" or looked at the enumeration district's description from which you might be able to deduce the whereabouts of the lane.  You could then go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.htm and wander about the area where you should be able to find it.

Regards

Chas

P.S. Perhaps you should have included the district for that might have helped somebody to help you.

Googled Grouty's Lane and came up with - Grouty's Lane, Bryants Hill, St. George, Bristol - hope that helps.

Hi
I don't know if you actually did the google search that SWar did, but if you then click on the link you find that Groutys Lane is what is now known as Furber Rd, so the road is still there.

My mothers brother lived at 105 Furber Road from the 1930s till about 1990

Thank you very much for that.  I put it in Google and it was mentioned on someone else's tree so was glad to find it was Bryant's Hill area.  Even better to know its still there.

Thank you very  much.
