Thomas William Cridland was born in 1863 and arrived in Portishead about 1879 from Watchet. He lived there until his death in 1923. He married Mary Ellen atherton Bacon on 7 Sep 1893. He was a dock labourer at the newly opened Portishead docks

So photography was around in his time... but where to look to find a photo that is labelled is the question. I wonder if when the docks were officially opened there were any photos taken and these might be in local newspapers?

Bit of a reach but just maybe...
