lastest release of papers past is LIVE
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 23:41 UTC (UK) »

Hi all have just received this email.

Quote
Good morning everyone,

The latest release of Papers Past has been launched (at 10am this morning to be exact!).  The site has achieved one if its biggest milestones to date: all newspapers are now fully searchable.

More newspaper titles from across the country are also available, including increased coverage of the Canterbury region with the Ashburton Guardian, Ellesmere Guardian and the Oxford Observer and Canterbury Democrat.

Other additions include the NZ Truth, Otautau Standard and Wallace County Chronicle, Victoria Times, and Kai Tiaki, the journal of the NZ Nurses' Organisation.  The date range for the Poverty Bay Herald has also been expanded to cover 1879 to 1920.

The overall date range for newspapers in Papers Past has increased too and now covers 1839 to 1932.

Happy hunting everyone

I think I read somewhere that the National Library was seeing if they could get good results from the existing microfilmed copies of the NZ Herald or whether they would have to remicrofilm (is that a word?) them.

I had thought that the present owners of the paper would not allow their rag onto paperspast, but that was just an assumption on my part.

Charlie.

Did anyone else try the tip for google search of Paperspast, it can be worth trying and the results are easier to see/read

http://www.google.co.nz/advanced_search?hl=en
put in "Search with in a site":  http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

you can search for "A Name" and put year if desitred etc...
Worth a try
