Searching through directory help
« on: Monday 22 June 09 09:40 UTC (UK) »

I have found a great granddad, William Henry Cox, in Kelly's Directory of 1891.  Is there anyone that has access to any other years after this but before 1901 and can spare the time to search for me please?  Any directories would be useful it doesn't have to be Kelly's.  Alternatively if they can be found on online a link would be appreciated.  I have looked in Kelly's of 1899 but there was no joy there.

Thank you in anticipation

Ewan, I don't have the link to hand but the Directories can be accessed free via the University of Leicester's website.

I'm glad you came up with that link Kerry, as I got into Leicester's website and I was completely lost Roll Eyes.

As it turned out this was the website where I found information from Kelly's, I just found it under Historical Directories though.  My great granddad appears on the 1891 but does not on the 1899 of Kelly's, the other years were not relevant to when the family were in Brighton Sussex.

Anyone have any more ideas?

Ewan

Have you looked at the Sussex OPC site, there are some directories on there I believe?

Thanks Kerry for your suggestion, I did have a look on that site just before posting this thread.  They have a poll register but that only goes up to 1837, there was a Richard Cox, shoemaker in brighton in 1823 in a postal directory, so that wasn't my man.  I also took a look at the 'wills' section but he wasn't there.

There is a place called the Brighton History Centre, perhaps that is what you mean toni*.  That is possibly where I would find directories after 1891, unfortunately that is a bit far for me to travel.  Thanks for the suggestion though.
