The 1871 census entry for Joseph and Sarah shows that Joseph was born in Ireland.

Do you know if his parents moved to Scotland ?

PS

The family lived at 51 Piccadilly Street and consisted of

Joseph Queen, aged 34, a boilermaker

his wife
Sarah Queen, aged 37 (born Glasgow)
and their child
Agnes Queen, 8 days old (born Glasgow)

re age difference - it's possible that the age was mis transcribed and Sarah may have been 27 at census ( or she may just have been a little economical with the truth)

Re Parents - it is possible that neither of them made it over to Scotland which will make your search just a little bit harder  Tongue

The 1881 census entry looks promising  Roll Eyes:

Joseph Queen 45, iron ship rivetter, b. Ireland
Sarah Queen 37
Agnes Queen 10
Ellen Queen 7
Joseph Queen 5
James Queen 3
Ellen Queen 90, mother, b. Ireland

Address: 21 Catherine St, Anderston Glasgow

Likely mother died in Scotland and the image of the death entry would be available to view on Scotlands People. Her death certificate may confirm her parents' names if known to the informant.

From Falkryn's entry for 1871, Joseph showed the occupation of boiler maker. I wonder if this could be Joseph before marriage, in 1861:

Helen McQueen 60, cotton winder, b. Ireland
Bridget McQueen 28, cotton winder, b. Ireland
Joseph McQueen 23, boilermaker b. Ireland
Helen Mulaholand 2, granddaughter, b. Glasgow

Address: 3 Whitehall Street, Anderston Glasgow

As you can see, if the right family for Joseph, ages go up and down. Also with a name like Queen, always worthwhile searching for it as McQueen.

so it's looking like Ellen Queen who was 60 in the 1861 census was helen kane who may have made it to scotland to live with her son and daughter  as Joseph's  father is already  deceased in 1967 marriage of joseph and sarah so its looking probable that he was deceased in 1861 too

Hi Katrina

You'll hopefully be able to confirm the details if you view Helen's death cert. It will include her husband's name and parents' details, if known. With luck, you may find son Joseph reported the death  Smiley

There is a death showing in Anderston for a Helen Queen/Kane in 1881. She must have died shortly after the census that year.

Just thought to check the 1841 census:

Neil Queen 40, labourer
Helen Queen 38
Maryann Queen 18
James Queen 20
Patrick Queen 14
John Queen 12
Biddie Queen 11
Joseph Queen 6
Sarah Rodgers 50
James Rodgers 24
Elizabeth Rodgers 3

Address: John Street, Glasgow Barony

All the Queen family show an Irish birth. Not sure if the Rodgers family is connected as the 1841 census carries limited info (no relationships shown within the household being one of the limitations).

Hi Katrina

Is this death you have found for a Neil Queen from www.fdca.org.uk/FDCAHowffInfo.html?

This Neil shows as aged 66 and a weaver. Not sure if this is a good fit with the Neil we found in 1841, aged 40 and a labourer in the Glasgow census for that year.

What do you think?

Hi monica your right it cannot possibly be him as in the 1941 census for John st, barony glasgow
Neil queen was 40 and a labourer
so he couldn't possibly be 66 by 1948 and in dundee
must have been tired when i looked that one up Sad
