Hi,
I have found references in Kelly's directory 1903 to an Edward DUNSBY of Woodstock
Woodstock Councilors retire in Nov 1903
Edward DUNSBY
Kelly 1903 Oxfordshire
Cabinet Makers
Dunsby Edward, Woodstock
Undertakers
Dunsby Edward, Woodstock

I have an Edward Dunsby on my tree I know mine was a cabinet maker and was in Woodstock in 1901.

How can I prove the directory entries refer to one man and how can I find out about his time as a councilor? It looks like they held office for three years where would records of councilors be kept?

There are two Edward Dunsbys in the 1901 census - both born Cassington - your chap in Woodstock, and the other near Witney (a Carpenter) ...

I'd hazard a guess that your man could be one and the same as the 1903 Undertaker - with 2 Directory listings. Was there no street address in Kellys ?

Hopefully a Google or local Archives search will reveal more about the Councillor and if he was indeed the same man ?

ADDED: Looking in the 'official' 1901, which allows an occupation search, no undertaker shows up in Woodstock of that name ...

Thanks for that Yes I has both the Edwards born in Cassington on my tree but only the one went to Woodstock so I am pretty sure he is the Woodstock cabinet maker I think it was usual for the local carpenter to be the undertaker too so that doesn't surprise me that he had the "second" occupation but I am quite intrigued by the councilor angle I wonder what were the requirements and duties of the Post If it is my "man" he only went to Woodstock between 1881 and 1891 and if he was due to retire 1903 he would have been elected in 1900 and would only have been 45/6
I need to find out more about the office
