John Reed Davies " help"
« on: Monday 22 June 09 13:34 UTC (UK) »

Hi I am looking for the birth of John Reed Davies born around 1843 in Wales, I have checked freeBDM and the only John REED Davies that I can find was born in Caernavon in 1857, according to later USA censuses the 1843 birthdate is correct, do you think that freeBDM has got it wrong?
What I am really trying to find out for an American friend is where? in Wales John Davies was born, he emmigrated in 1868, I realise that looking for a Davies in Wales is a bit of a problem to say the least, but I did think the fact John had the middle name of Reed might help.
Is there anyone who can give me any ideas on searching please?I would be very grateful for some tips.

Hi

John Reed Davies, b. Caernarvonshire in 1857 is still there in 1871 so it's definitely not yours.

Have you looked for immigration records?

I've checked for Reid as well but nothing so far - he could have added his middle name later and that means looking for a John Davies  Undecided

Hi Gadget I don't think he added it later, I think it might have been a family name, because according to the USA 1800 census his son was named Harry Reed Davies, and it also said he immigrated in 1868, would I be able to check immigration records on AN.......?
Thank you so much for your interest, Best Wishes Bethan

Hi Bethan

I had a quick look and couldn't find him but I was called away in the middle. Also, it might be worth putting a request up on the US boards to see if they have more source records.

I'll see if I can find anything on earlier/later US censuses for him and any other Reed Davieses. What part of the US was he resident in?

Hi Bethan

Do you know the names of John's parents. That may help in the search, also the names of siblings wouldn't hurt.

Heres hoping. Wink

I think that's what we're looking for, Bob  Grin

I don't see any other <something>  Reed Davies on the US censuses and the <something R Davies b. Wales are all born a wee bit to early  Undecided

 Sad Sad Sad

Thought I check out the Reed Davies names in Wales - it's not that unusual. There seems to be people with that name  born in Carmarthenshire, Flintshire/Montgomeryshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire and Monmouthshire, in addition to all the R Davies   Undecided

Thanks a lot Gadget and Bob, you suprised me when you said there were a lot of Reed Davies's in Wales, I could only find the two!
I think I will have to try immigration next, I have worked out that John Reed Davies probably went to Pennslyvania first, as his wife and first son were born there, where is the best place to look for help on immigration?
Thank you for your patience, best wishes Bethan

I would have thought that the thread that you have on the US board would be the best place.  I've done some checking but don't see anything on my resources. The main problem is that he could be down as just John or John R  Sad

Maybe ask again  for immigration info on that thread.

There should be a John R somewhere in 1851 and 1861 - maybe have a good search on those censuses.
