Hi Does anyone have access to Parish registers for Longton between Preston and Southport Lancs. I am looking for the birth of Eva Cross born Longton possibly 1811 0r 1816. Eva married Thomas Wignall about 1834-5 and they continued to live in Longton. They had at least two sons John born 1835 and Matthew born 1840 also Longton. The reason for finding this birth is to discover her parents name and in turn discovering if she had a sister named Jane. Jane married William Threlfall. b. 1799 Freckleton Lancs. I cannot find a marriage for this couple and i am trying to work backwards and a little sideways. Any help would be gratefully received Regards Joyce

No Jane Cross born to those parents showing on the IGI
PARENT SEARCH ON IGI
www.familysearch.org - On home page - click on “Advanced Search” to the right of the SEARCH button
Select “International Genealogical Index” from the left hand menu
Input fathers name and surname BUT only put mothers christian name as not all entries have the maiden name
REGION – select British Isles from the menu
COUNTRY – select one or “All countries”
COUNTY (will appear when you select COUNTRY) – select whichever matches what you know about the family
Click SEARCH

 Hi Joyce,
I have the baptisms marriages and burials for St Andrew's Parish Longton. Matthew Wignall was baptised there 13th Sept 1840 to Thomas & Eve of Longton a weaver. Jane was baptised there to to Thomas and Eve 13th November 1842. John c.1835 not baptised there or at St Leonard's Walton may be at St Mary's Penwortham. Only BT's available for this period and on film at Lancs. Record Office. There are other Wignalls baptised at Longton who could be yours.
As you know Eve was baptised at St Leonard's Walton le Dale to Matthew and Betty Cross of Walton a weaver. They also had Alice baptised 14th March 1813, Roger baptised 9th April 1815. No sign of a sister Jane there. Marriages at Longton only start 1838 and not found at Walton le Dale, not at Penwortham.
Let me know if you need anymore from Longton paslwigr

I am beginning to think that Eva Cross -Wignall is not the right sister. I am actually looking for Jane born 1807 Longton. and married William Threlfall Freckleton I have no maiden name but it was suggested that it may be Cross. Maybe not. I am hoping that a birth certificate for one of Jane's children may provide a maiden name but knowing the luck i have had up to now i am not holding my breath. Thanks for the info and if you come across a Jane baptised about this time i would be grateful. Regards Joyce

Hi Sorry about this but i was misled with the Cross link. The person i am looking for is Jane Brown bor circa 1807 Longton. I have just recieved a birth cert for one of her children and it confirms maiden name was Brown. So if you wouldn't mind having another quick look for me please . Regards Joyce

Sorry, no Jane Brown baptised at St Andrew's Longton. She could have been baptised at St Mary's Penwortham, which was the mother church. Unfortunately these records are on film at the Lancashire Record Office. I only have 1857 - 1900. paslwigr
