Burial Look-up please, BAKER
« on: Thursday 26 November 09 12:42 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am trying to locate a burial for a death which took place within Sevenoaks district in June qtr 1876 for Eliza Baker, wife of Samuel Thomas Baker.  Eliza was aged 32 years.

In 1871 Eliza and Samuel Thomas Baker were resident at Clay Pits, Edenbridge, but by 1881 Samuel was a widower resident at Mill Cottages, Hever.

Eliza may have died in either of these parishes.

I wonder if anyone may have access to any burial registers who could look this up for me please?
Thank you
Carol

Did he have any kids with him in 1881?
When & where were they born?

Hi Pauline, thanks for your speedy reply.

Yes Samuel Thomas Baker did have children with him in 1881.  He married Eliza Botley at Crockham hill in 1864.

Samuel T Baker was widowed in 1881, head of his household at Mill Cottages, Hever, Kent, with children Minnie Baker 11 born Westerham and Fred Baker 8 born Edenbridge, plus his sister Hannah Baker aged 39, born Westerham, Kent.

So you know her age from census, and can assume she died sfter Fred was born.

How many candidates are there in Deaths?

Oh yes, she died after son Fred born in 1873.  She died in June qtr 1876 aged 32, Sevenoaks district.  Her maiden name was Eliza Botley, born at Westerham in 1843 - I have her baptism.

Free BMD offers no other candidates within the correct district for a death.

Husband Samuel Thomas Baker moved to Hever between 1871 & 1881 and then married again in 1883 to a widow, Mary Ann Jenner, nee Pearson, subsequently dying himself at Hever in 1914.

If I cannot locate an accurate burial I shall purchase the death certificate, but it would also be good to know where she has been laid to rest.

Thanks for your help.

Eliza Baker died at Edenbridge on 5th June 1876, aged 32 years.  She was the wife of Samuel Thomas Baker, a Stockman, also of Edenbridge.

If anyone has access to Edenbridge Parish Burial Registers (or near parish) and can locate her burial, I should be most greateful, thank you.
