Baptism - 'Esther' around 1794
« on: Monday 22 June 09 22:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am trying to locate a baptism for an Esther (maiden name unknown), although she consistently lists herself as born in Stony Stratford around 1794.

This may help me find her marriage to William Warwick which took place around 1812 in either his birthplace of the Pattishall area of Northampton or at esther's birthplace in Buckinghamshire.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

thanks in advance.

Did the couple have children - if so have you found their christenings?  Any clues there? like where were they and dates? or found them on later censuses to see the whereabouts of the family? That might help lead to a posible marriage.

Yes thats them.

I've just established that Esther's maiden name may be Price.

She appears to have married William Warwick in Cold Higham, Northamptonshire in 1812, which is in the vicinity of where William was born.

Hope that this helps.

Regards

1841
Birding bury

William 50 NO
Esther 45  NO
Sarah 25 NO
Anne 13 Yes
Hannah 9  Yes
John 10 yes
Mary 8  Yes
Elizabeth 2  yes

I wonder how many are children and how many are grandchildren?

The fact that Sarah who may well be the eldest at home in 1841, was not born in county indicates that they might have moved here after marriage, and marriage may be elsewhere.

Getting a cert for Elizabeth (only one born post 1837) will give mothers maiden name - if she is a child of William and Esther that will give yuo Esthers maiden name - but if she is a grandhild it will just confirm that fact to you.

Thanks Lizdb

I posted a concurrent post on the Northamptonshire board which produced the possible marriage and indicated Esther's maiden name to be Price.

I now need to find Esther's baptism.  Stony Stratford appears to be close to Milton Keynes, which is a new town and therefore the area has somewhat changed over the last 200 years making it hard to establish where she may have been baptised - it may be in a 'lost' town!

Stony Stratford is in fact now part of the new town of Milton Keynes.  Pattishall is in Northamptonshire and not part of Northampton.  Most of the villages of North Buckinghamshire which became part of Milton Keynes can still be identified as areas of the New Town. although a few seemd to have moved a short distnce from their original location.

You should not have any difficulty with lost towns because Milton Keynes for example has an active historical group which is keenly preserving as much  history as possible.
