Ferguson's again
« on: Monday 22 June 09 23:42 UTC (UK) »

Hi - help required  Huh

Still trying to sort out my Ferguson family.

John McKay son of my g/g/grandfather Alexander McKay married a Jane Ferguson dob c1839, her father is listed as Daniel Ferguson mother Margaret mcLaren, now, on the 1841 census there is a David Huh Ferguson c1806, wife Margaret and children Daniel 3 yrs old and Jane 1 year old.
The dates are right just confused with the David part could this be another spelling of Daniel ??

They are all there on the 1841 McKay's are farming at Laurencfield, Fergusons are at the Graham Ana Inn (innkeeper) it's just putting them all together.
Added to this Alexander McKay was married to Margaret mcLaren from Kenmore, and Daniel /David Ferguson was married to Margaret McLaren from Callander.

May finally be getting somewhere..maybe

Feel in my bones  that my g/g/grandmother Jane Ferguson 1824 born Callander is somehow connected as well.
plus found more children for John Ferguson and Jane McGregor  that makes 14 in all..the whole thing has me going around in circles

s always..patvp

Hi Pat

Have you checked Jane's Death certificate to see if her parents names are listed consistently?

The IGI has a christening 3rd September 1839 Post of Monteith to Daniel Ferguson and Margaret Mcleran

Have you viewed the original census or are you going by someone else's transcription for the names?

The IGI also shows more children to this couple* in Port of Montieth including a son Daniel b. 1837 which would fit with your census family. The mother's surname spelling varies.

Daniel 1837
Jane 1839
Marion 1842
Archibald 1846
Margaret 1851

If you check the 1851 census you might be able to see if this family matches up with the one you found in the 1841 census.

Kirsty

Hi Kirsty - Yes, have her death cert, parents are Daniel Ferguson and Margaret McLaren, and yes other census all check out, it was just the 1841 that has me stumped addmitedly it is an A****ry transcription ?? may have to wait till I can afford more credits on SP to check it out on the original, it still seems strange tho'they should have transcribed as David ?? when his son is Daniel !!plus the added fact that McKay's, McGregors and the Fergusons all on the same page.

For other Ferguson hunters..
Children of John Ferguson and Jane McGregor.

Peter 1822, Joh 1823, Janet 1824-1891, Mary 1825, John 1826, Christian 1826 (twins) Alexander 1826, John 1827-1894, Alexander 1830, Isabella 1831, Margaret 1833, Duncan 1834, Colin 1837-1891, Alexander 1840.

14 in all, the poor woman must have been exhausted.

Where I have listed death dates I have further info, and would assume that repeat of names the children died young.
Al children born Kincardine.

Donald Ferguson, Blair Atholl
« Reply #4 on: Thursday 23 July 09 09:55 UTC (UK) »

I'm looking for Donald Ferguson, born Blair Atholl about 1828, married Mary and moved to Liverpool.  He had three daughters Mary, Catherine, and Margaret.  The 1891 census gives his name as Donald, place of birth and age, and his first grandson was called Donald, but Mary's marriage certificate gives his name as Daniel.  I haven't found records about him other than the 1891 census.  He was a coachman.  Maybe one of the readers of this thread has information.

The names 'Donald' and 'Daniel' were interchangeable.

Cheers.
