Old Dos BDM records
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 00:51 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I have the old Dos version of Bdms for NSW, Tasmania, WA.   However I now have a computer running Vista which doesn't (or won't because its cranky!!!) run DOS.  I would particularly like to be able to view the births for NSW up to 1918.

Can anyone tell me if there is any way I can get around this problem, keeping in mind that I am constantly struggling to keep up with the technology and could not honestly describe myself as being computer literate  Tongue Tongue Tongue

Vista which doesn't (or won't because its cranky!!!) run DOS.

Vista will run some dos programs within it's command line structure but there are certain "compatability" issues that need to be addressed first. You need to use the Vista compatability mode for Windows 95/98/ME or even Windows 2000 (the last versions to actually support Dos) and then go to the start menu and click on "Run" - in the text box that appears type cmd which will open a Command structure window and allow you to navigate to the dos program using most of the usual dos commands.

However overall I would recommend going with Guy's suggestion of using Dosbox
