Hello Caroldawn-
There are a number of William Bailey's born in Cambridgeshire in a similar time period, do you know where yours was born?

1804 BAILEY, William of Thomas & Mary    Stetchworth
1804 BAILEY, William of William & Elizabeth    Wicken
1806 BAILEY, William natural s. of Mary    Stetchworth
1806 BAILEY, William of Mark & Susanna    Wisbech, St.Ptr.
1806 BAILEY, William of Thomas & Mary    Outwell
1807 BAILEY, William of John & Elizabeth    Soham
1808 BAILEY, William of William & Elizabeth    Stetchworth
1808 BAILEY, William of William & Ann    West Wratting
1810 BAILEY, William of James & Hannah    Wisbech St.Mary

I've highlighted two Williams born to Wiliiam/Elizabeth, this could account for the confusion of who married who.  Is the Isaac who signed the wedding cert listed as Williams father?  If he's just a witness he could have been a brother or cousin.

Cambridgeshire FHS have some online records that might be of use, they have a baptism index from 1801-1837, a death index for the same period and indexes for some of the census, look under Searchable Databases.

Hi Racing Girl Smiley,

I think you need go go back to basics to establish the right family records. ALL the info on familysearch is submitted, not extracted from Parish Records. The marriage to Jane Tuck also. This is to be treated with caution Undecided

To enable us to help can you;

Give us the name of which child of William Bird born abt. 1806 you are descended from.

Williams occupation

Any other census info you have for this child/marriage etc.

I also do not understand your posting; Jane Tucks father was Thomas Baker? Do you mean she was nee Baker, married a Tuck and then William Bailey?

For others interested there is a baptism of ISAAC BAILEY 1804, Wicken, with parents William Bailey and Elizabeth BIRD.
Several siblings are listed but it is a submitted record. They do not have William 1806 as a child of theirs.

Cheers,
trish

The baptism of Isaac Bailey was in 1814, not 1804, and it is on the Cambs FHS baptism index, so it looks OK, notwithstanding it's a member submission on the IGI. It's unlikely though that Elizabeth Bird was named as the mother, probably just Elizabeth. The Bird name may have been added by the submitter, and this part needs checking

Hi Caroldawn Smiley

I have found the family on 1841 Census. Do you have this?

1841 Census
Witton, Huntingdonshire   HO107/449/7/Witton

Wiliam BAILEY, 35, tailor, born in county-yes
Jane, 30, no
Doris, 8, yes
Wallis, 6, yes
Robert, 5mths, yes

So looks like possibly our search should be in HUNTINGDONSHIRE Wink

Submitted record Roll Eyes

William BAILEY
Christened, 27 April 1806, Somersham, Huntingdon
Parents, William Bailey and Mary PETERS

There is a family group record, which you can check fo yourself on this. Includes where William and Mary are born, married, and William 1806 siblings names.

You would still need to have this checked.

I am having trouble finding family 1851. But have found William and Mary, possible parents of William 1806;

1851 Census
18 High Street            HO107/1749/191/5
Somerham, Huntingdonshire

William BAILEY, head, mar, 73, ag lab, born Northamp-Corby
Mary, wife, mar, 66, born Hunts Somersham
Jane AYRES, daug,39, widow, charwoman, Hunts/Somerham
Rebecca Ayres, grand/dau, 12, scholar, born as above
John Ayres, 10
Robert Ayres, 4
Emma BAILEY, grand/dau, unm, 22, Hunts Somerham

This seem to work with Familysearch record as William has sister Jane born 1812 on it.

Hi Caroldawn;

I grew up in NZ Grin

1851 Census

25 Huntingdon Road
Witton, Huntingdonshire

Jane BAILEY, head, mar, 42, Publican, born Middlesex, London
Doris (indexed as Davis), daug, unm, 18
Wallis, son, unm, 15
Lancelott, son, unm, 4
Has children as all born Witton, Hunts

So where is William? Away working ? And Robert with Dad?
Now Janes POB does not tally with 1841 and family group record. Could William have married twice to a Jane? or is it just a mistake?
And Charles, 1832, I feel must have died before 1841 Census.

I will keep working on this but at some stage will need to move this to Huntingdonshire board to have everything checked with Parish Records etc.

Can I ask where the info for Jane Tuck/Fathers name Thomas Baker came from?

I think it is possible William married 2 Janes.

William and  son Charles died about 1849-1850.  I know there was an eperdemis of Cholera around at that time and think he succumbered to it.his wife Jane married again George Taunter and they lived in Haughton. Ive seen in family search where he married Jane Tuck but thomas baker may only have been a stepfather
