I do not have an answer JohnBarr but it is a very interesting question you have raised.
My thinking would be a child of a parent who immigrated here  But I could be wrong 
Would be very interesting to know the answer

If you went by nationality,then you could I suppose count the person that first settled here, becuase it wasn't till 1900's was it that their was separate citizenship. so these days we would go on nationality birth but then you were a british citizen anyway...weren't you??? Bye Althea
