1906 school sports medal

a friend of mine has sent me the following message "I have found a sports medal my grandmother was awarded at school in 1906 (in New Zealand). Its silver & lovely - I have had it cleaned & wear it now. It only has the initials of the school. Have you any tips on how I find out what school it was"

The initials for the school are G W C and my friend thinks it could have been in Auckland.  Name of the recipient was Alberta Palliser.

Can anyone please help?

Hi Meegan,

The school is actually Wellington Girls College in Wellington.  And if it was 1906 then it could be the medal Alberta won for winning the school championship.  The Paperspast website has a lot of sports results for her if you just use 'palliser college' in the search function.  She was obviously quite a gun at sports! Grin

bunny thanks for the offer, however the references were taken from aussie newspapers and printed in nz.  names of goodsell (brickmakers) and markcrow (a sculler)

don't know about the merrimans.
