Hi,
Joseph & Mary b 1810??? immigrated to Australia on "Herald"1841 from Belfast with their family.Their County  Armargh . Their shipping papers say their native place is Altnamackan  Newtownhamilton.  His parents Joseph & Martha Jackson, & her parents Thomas & Huh Lonsdale.  According to immigration papers they are protestant.  Does any one have any information from Ireland about these two?

Hello Bev C,

You'll have to rely on Church records when searching for Joseph, Mary and their parents as they were born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. Marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.

 Hi Bev C, as christopher says1810 is too early in irish terms to get civic records unless….
you can get back to a church record
you can look up www.emeraldancestors.com
you can look up www.familysearch.com and hunt for the two surnames in say the county first

In the meantime I tried searching for Altnamackan  general history and found www.cregganhistory.co.uk/newtownhamilton/altnamackan.htm

 I think you need to research each wood ie Tullyvallen Hamilton Macken Bryan Carrickrovaddy useing the same site and google and start finding out what protestant churches existed then and if any records exist. Some such records exist at PRONI try Presbyterian records once there.

Hi Bev,

        I just goggled Cox Hill Road, Lisavague, County Armagh at the suggestion of a cousin in Ireland and found your 2006 post on Rootschat.  My grandmother was Sarah Jackson (1878-1928) of Lisavague. She came to the United States with my grandfather, James Morrison (1869-1948) of Derryhale in 1903.
      Sarah's parents were Thomas Jackson and Sarah Patterson both born in the early 1840's. 
        The name I have for Thomas' father is Joseph Jackson and the name I have for Sarah Patterson's father is Samuel.  I have Sally Cox as the wife of either Joseph or Samuel.
       Perhaps a connection...

Hi Richard,
I am totally new to this and this is my first post!  I am researching my family and hit a wall after getting back to John Cox born in Derryhale , Armagh around 1833 (I know he died in 1883 aged 50) .  I have his marriage cert from 1861 and it states that his father was also John Cox, farmer from Derryhale.  On the PRONI website, I came accross a list of a will for a John Cox, Derryhale who died 1889 and it lists Thomas Morrison of Derryhale, farmer as the surviving executor.   I just wondered if he could be one of your Morrisons?  It seems likely don't you think?  Also have you came across any Cox's in your family search which may give me some clues?Huh Any possible leads would be fantastic.

Thomas Morrison of Derryhale is my great grandfather.

His oldest son, James, married Sarah JACKSON of Lisavague at St. Saviours Church, County Armagh, in Sept. 1903 and they (my grandparents) arrived in New York 10 days later.  One of Sarah's grandmothers was named Sally COX; there is Cox Hill Road in Derryhale. I have a tree on Ancestry.

Hopefully, you also received the 'personal message' I sent you via Rootschat several days ago.  One can not post email addresses in the open on Rootschat.
