James Bennett, Sheffield
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 11:48 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I've come to a dead end in my research on James Bennett. According to
the 1861 census he was aged 6. Born in Sheffield in 1855. He is living
with his Grandparents, Thomas & Ann Bennett. No mention of a Mother or Father.
The census ref is: RG09 3462 27 4. I hope someone can help me find his
Parents. Thank you for your time.
                                                         Cheers,
                                                                      Terry.

tried the 1851 census to see if the Bennets had older kids one of whom may have been young James parent ?

No Birth Index entry obvious in FreeBMD ?

terry,

If you get his birth cert. it will say who his parents are.

Look in freebmd as Past Master suggests.  This will give you the info required to order his cert.
Why not check thru freebmd then tell us how this goes and take it from there?

Hi Past Master,
Thanks all the great work. I've also got the 1871 census. My wife pointed out
that Ann Bennett (27) would have only been 11 years old to have a son James in 1855.
Thanks Again.

Hi Past Master & Charlotte,
I'm sorry if you took my response the wrong  way, Past Master.
I didn't think you were implying anything. Thanks again to both
of you.

Hello.  Do you have James marriage cert?  Also did James have a middle name?  The marriage cert may help you with that and his father's name.

Possible marriage

December 1876 ? Eccles. B
James Bennett / Elizabeth Burgin

Hello Dee,
Thank you for your email. According to the 1901 census, James wife was called
Mary. I have no marriage cert & as far as know, no middle name. I believe
my Grandfather, William Bennett, born 1893, is named on this census.
RG13 3752 folio30 page 9.
I think the Mary on this census could be Mary Lavin, born i n Hull in 1860.
It's 3 years out, but I've come across these mistakes before.
Also they could have been married in Salford in Mar 1884, but I'm still
looking into it.
                       Thank you for your time.
