My Ggma died in Withington Workhouse, Manchester in 1902, leaving 5 children, Harold, Olive, Eveline, Winifred and Mary. I have found Eveline and Winifred in 1911 boarding in Carshalton, Eveline, went on to join the convent in 1911, I also know that Olive entered the convent in 1908. I cannot find Harold or Mary anywhere? Is there any way I could trace the children after their mothers' death in 1902 (Sarah Ann Maddocks nee Leah ) to finding them in 1911 ? Sarahs' last address was in Gorton Manchester. Would they have been in the Workhouse with their mother when she died or with their father Thomas ? I am curious regarding what happened to the children after their mother died, would they have stayed in the workhouse, if so how could I check this ?
Regards x

You can look for records relating to the workhouse: http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_studies/3812/poor_law_and_workhouse_records/7
A lot depends on what age the children were at. An older boy might have been sent out to work or put into an apprenticeship early on, an older girl into "service" (domestic work). They could have gone from the workhouse into another children's home, or have been sent to Canada as "home children".
Some of the children could have ended up back with their father or with other relatives -- it's hard to know.

Hi E
To answer your pm asking where Lane Manchester is (for those not privy that is where Olive claims to be from on the 1911 census). Using www.Streetmap -Lane is about 15 miles ENE from Manchester (indicated here by the arrow):
