Ida Mabel Smith (maiden name FOWLER)
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 13:01 UTC (UK) »

Ida migrated to Canada around 1914 and moved into USA shortly after this date.
She was born in Inverurie, Scotland in 1891, and lived in Yonkers for 59 years.
She was married to James Smith in 1915. James died in 1958.
Ida died in 1973 at Hudson View Nursing Home, her las known address was 75 Walsh Road,
Yonkers. Her obituary reads "she is survived by one son, (*) of Old Tappan, NJ," There is also reference to grandchildren andgreatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.
There is also reference to a Violet Peters, her sister. Violet died in 1982 at Arcadia, Los Angeles.
Violet's name was Violet Hay Fowler.
Hopefully there will be some descendants till in these areas.  I would dearly love to contact
them as I would have so much family history to relate.
All help and advice will be gratefully received.
Thanks,
Ian Fowler, Spain.

Ian, you most likely know about this, but there is an obituary notice for Peters, Violet F. in the Arcadia Tribune.  Only her name and date of death are mentioned on the site.  I believe you have to order a copy of the notice to read the details.

Thanks Lisa,
I have now received the obituary and it gives several family names.  I will work on
this and hope to progress further.
Thanks again for your help.
Although I live in Spain, my mum's family were from Sussex (I note you have an interest there)
Should you ever need any help just ask.
Best wishes,
Ian

Hi Ian.  Wow, you are quite lucky to have received the obituary so quickly!  If I can help look up anything else, please let me know.

My dad's father's side was from Sussex.  Thanks to a "family bible" (two pieces of paper), I have been able to trace this line back to 1748.  Grin  They lived in Shipley and surrounding areas. Thank you for the kind offer; I will keep it in mind, if that's ok.

Please post again if we can be of further help.  (I know what it's like to research from a distant country.)  Wink
