Does anyone know what was the Whitfield review or parade, in 1887?
Context: Letter written from Grove House, Folkestone April 12, 1887: "Harry went with John to see the review yesterday. They went on their bicycles. The review was at Whitfield. They only saw the march past."

Hi Keith
It sounds like it could be a military exercise as there is a full page article in "The Times" 12 Apr 1887 entitled "The Easter Manoeuvres" .................. the general idea was that a hostile force had landed at Sandwich and the idea for today (11 April) was that the enemy advanced on Whitfield .................

Thank you very much Casalguidi.
The rest of the letter was a little sadder. I had planned to put footnotes to the letter, so that people of today could identify with the persons named and information, thus, my question about the parade. The 15 year old son was dying and the mother was writing to her daughter. Then a letter dated the next day by the father and addressed to the same person, tells of his son's death during the night. Very sad.
Once again, the people of RootsChat are fantastic.
Much appreciated.

Hi Casalguidi,
Rootschat.com helpers have replied to me request on the parade. Thank you.
I am still working on a number of families from the Folkestone area, who had some intermarriages. They include: Anne Paine (1793 Gamblingay- 1850 Folkestone) and her husband the Rev Jogn Clark (1796-1850 Folkestone); their son, John Clark (1821 - 1894 Folkestone), school master of Grove House, Dover Road, Folkestone); William Harvery Stace (1791 Folkestone) and Thomas and Mary Harvey of Eythorne Court. Some members of these families married into the Day, Lithographer of London and Rees of Haverfordwest families, which is my connection and of my distant relative in Somerset.
