Elizabeth PETTIGREW birth 1812 Cambusnethan
« on: Monday 06 July 09 14:44 UTC (UK) »

Firstly, can anyone tell me how far this place is from Glasgow. Elizabeth's daughter seemed to think it was IN Glasgow, according to census replies.

Anyway, Elizabeth married a William Gibb in 1812, but I'd like to find out who she was before that, parents etc. If anyone has anything on this family.

In 1812 it would have taken hours to reach Glasgow from Wishaw (or wishawtown as it was then). It was a small, country village and couldn't have been mistaken for Glasgow.
Do you have a death for Elizabeth?
There was an interment in Cambusnethan churchyard on 15 October 1878 for Elizabeth Gibb, aged 69 years, abode - Crossford. Parents were John Pettigrew and Elizabeth Lamb.

I know the age is out, but it very often was in those days. Or it may just be a coincidence about the names Pettigrew and Gibb.
These names are both very prevalent in Cambusnethan.

I only know she was still alive at her daughter's marriage in 1863. Crossford is the other birthplace her daughter offered, some confusion there, obviously, so I think this is really quite likely. As you say, a few years out in those days isn't always anything to worry about. Thanks!
