lost birth
« on: Friday 26 June 09 23:07 UTC (UK) »

hi all
i have a friend who was born in stirling in 1951 she now lives in england and has been trying for some years to obtain a copy of her birth certificate without any luck.
i've tried searching on the scotlands people site but i couldn't find anything and found the site a bit difficult to use.
also is it allowed to ask for help on the search for living people? i wont put her info on untill i know im not breaking any rules.
i have some credits left on s.p site if there is anyone willing to give me a hand,or point me in the right direction.
we did fill a form in online for a birth cert using the info we had but that was about a month ago and still not heard anything.  Undecided

Hi  Smiley

A month isn't very long for Scottish certificates. I've known them take 7-8 weeks. I'm not sure what the timescales are at the moment but with the 20th century indexes being put on SP there's bound to be a delay.

As Carole said, we're not allowed to discuss living people but as far as searching SP is concerned, it's often best to give as little information as possible and go from there, adding extra uintil you've whittled it down. Also, use wildcards or soundex and only the first few letters of the first name.

Take a look at these two threads:
