Hello , Does anyone know if Rochester St Walker ,Newcastle still exists? My husbands GGrandfather died at no 80 in 1923. He was a Roman Catholic, as anyone any idea where he could be buried as we would love to visit his grave. Best Wishes Caroleoh. P.S. Forgot to mention his name which was Michael O'Hare

Hi Carole

It's still on the A - Z index but I need a magnifying glass to see it on the map!  I'll see if I can tell which is the nearest RC church though by 1923 I would expect him to be buried in a civil cemetery.

Definitely still there, going almost at a right angle north from the A 186 towards the south east corner of Walker Park.

Although Rochester Street is still there the whole area has been redeveloped, and the original houses demolished. If you go to http://maps.google.co.uk and search on the post code NE6 3NR you can see an aerial view of it as it is now. You can use http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm to see earlier maps of the area, just put the same post code in "search."
