Hi
On the Thames Hospital Fees Register I have found an entry for Robert William WILSON, which gives information regarding his stay in the hospital, but also mentions something about his being a Member of Thames Conference 3/9/1913.
Can anyone please enlighten me as to what the Thames Conference did or was? I have done some web searches but not found any real explaination.

first thoughts are that it was the reunion
the 50th jubilee was held 1917
but 15th feb 1913 there was the THAMES REUNION of old Thamesites?
Could it have been part of that..I'll need to do some looking in my books. there are many Wilson's mentioned but bot an R or robert
I see 1909 Robt Wm was living in Sand (Sandes St)

Just a hunch, but it may have been a note about his religious affiliation. 'Conference' is a term used in some churches in the manner of 'district' rather than a gathering. Seventh Day Adventists used it and I'm fairly sure Presbyterians did too. It would be common to have that noted on hospital admissions, as visiting lists are made up for local clergy to be made aware of who from their parish might need some care.

Methodist! ... probably. They were using the term 'conference' to refer to church districts. This is the Thames entry for the Cyclopedia of New Zealand 1902:

The Rev. Daniel James Murray, Wesleyan Minister in charge at the Thames, was born in Cambridge, England, in 1851, and was educated at Peterborough. He entered the ministry in England, and was ordained in May, 1879. In the same year he arrived at Port Chalmers, and was appointed to Wanganui. He was successively stationed at Milton, Tapanui, Mornington, Hutt, Woodend, St. Albans, Waimate and Lyttelton before being placed at the Thames in 1899. Mr. Murray has been secretary of the New Zealand Conference for six consecutive years—1895 to 1901—and before taking up the duties of the position, he acted for seven years as assistant secretary. Mr. Murray was married, in 1883, to a daughter of the late Mr. C. Holder, of Tong, Salop, England, and has two daughters and one son.

To everyone else who added suggestions, my thanks as well. With luck I may find some more information about this family via Church records....
