Burwash baptisms
« on: Wednesday 24 June 09 03:23 UTC (UK) »

Have found two Burwash baptism lists on this site 1755-1795 & 1798-1848 I am looking for Henry Eastwood who I suspect baptised between 1796 & 1797, are these two years not available or unreadable. Henry's parents Samuel & Sarah, all his other siblings are within the two lists.

Hi Ironbark

Welcome to Rootschat Smiley

Here is a marriage.

20th April 1782.

Samuel Eastwood to Sarah Thompson.

Burwash,East Sussex.

Taken from SMI.

You would be better off asking about the Batpisms on the Sussex board.

Hope this helps

Thank you for that marriage, they should have put the border a bit further one way, although I did get a message re the birth of two Johns which was good

Hi Ironbark

I have the Burwash baptisms for both 1796 and 1797 and I can confirm there are NO Eastwood Baptisms in Burwash.

Here are the baptisms either side of those dates

197      Stephen   Eastwood   6   5   1795   Samuel   Sarah         Joseph Langley, Curate
196      Thomas   Eastwood   13   12   1795   George   Eliz.         Joseph Langley, Curate
8      John   Eastwood   22   12   1798   Geo. Eastwood   Eliz. Eastwood         Joseph Langley
12      Hannah   Eastwood      11   1799   Samuel   Sarah         Joseph Langley, Curate

Sorry about that

Hi Chris,

I gather yoiu are saying that the two lists 1755-1795 and 1798-1848, include the years 96 & 97.
The four baptism's below are on the above two lists, so no Eastwoods at all were baptised in 1796 & 1797 in Burwash.
Is it possible that Samuel & Sarah Eastwood would have had a child baptised nearby although the siblings before and after him were baptised at Burwash.
Or maybe he was not baptised or Hannah was a Henry

Hi Ken

I've just had a look on the Sussex Family History Group database for you, and there appear to be only two in Sussex at the right time frame

Ashburnham baptised 10 March 1799 to Henry and Mary
Burwash baptised 16 November 1800 to George and Elizabeth (presumably the same couple Chris mentioned with Thomas and John)

George who married Elizabeth had the Henry 1800, George was a brother to Samuel, if my Henry baptized Ashburnham then I will have to rethink his parents.
Will look to see if a Henry was a brother to Samuel & George and how far away Ashburnham is to Burwash, but will send this post, and have a look, I do not mind who Henry's father & mother were as long as I find them. Most of the Eastwood's seem to be connected anyway.

Ken

Language like that is allowed Ken  Grin

I have Eastwoods in my tree too starting in Mayfield and then Burwash

Ashburnham is not that far from Burwash as the crow flies.

In fact I think I may have Henry and Mary in my tree.

Henry Eastwood baptised 5 May 1776 in Burwash to Henry and Susannah married Mary Parker on 29 July 1798 at Ticehurst, also close to Burwash.

According to my tree his father Henry is George's brother who married Elizabeth.

Have looked back over census info 1841 Etchingham Miskins farm Henry 40 born in county, children Sarah 15,Celia 12, Harriet 10, Ellen 8, Hesekiah 6. Celia is my 3x g grandmother, henry's wife Frances Leaney died 1838 at Miskins.
1851 Etchingham Henry widower age 53 says born Burwash, but last in a long row of ditto's at Coonwood Cottages with a Mary Guest housekeeper and her three children none of his children there but have found them elsewhere, Henry died Nov 1855.
It now looks as though Samuel was not his father but probably as you say Henry and Mary Parker
Do you have any info on Henry & mary other baptism's

Hi

I don't have any children for Henry and Mary as yet.  I am descended from Henry's aunt Hannah who married into the Pilbeam family.

Maybe its time to get out the Eastwoods again and have a go at filling in some more gaps.

But unfortunately there is no baptism date for him so it could be someone's guess work.
