Elizabeth McBride
« on: Friday 26 June 09 00:05 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Looking for the parents of Elizabeth Mcbride most likely born June 23, 1856 in Kilfinan Argyll Scotland. I know her father’s name is Alexander McBride. I would like to know her mother’s name and maiden name as well as any dates of marriage or birth relating to her parents.

I also know that Elizabeth married Duncan Livingstone Jan 31 1876.

Any information would be helpful

Thanks
Torrie

Hi Torrie

On the 1861 Census there is an Elizabeth with parent Alexander and Isabella.  This might help narrow down the search for you.  Have you tried the IGI at all yet??

Could be Isabella McCallum

Cheers

Torrie

I think that the only way you will find that out is to get Elizabeth's birth certificate.  Scotlandspeople might be a good place to start with that one.  Have you used it before??

Cheers

I might have to put this on my list of things to buy.

I found a relative on this form from posting here who gave me lots of information on another family line...so I was hoping someone might already know something.

Hi Torrie

Can't easily see as yet an Elizabeth Livingstone b. Arygyll and married to a Duncan on the censuses. What children do you have for them as this might help in finding them on the censuses to confirm more information about her. Also, what area of Scotland do you expect them to be living in from the children's births or family stories.

The normal way to go would be to check her marriage entry or death cert to confirm her parents, but conscious of student grants etc.  Roll Eyes , trying to see whether we can find her on the censuses first. Her likely death entry shows a birth year of c. 1857.

Undecided Torrie, we have already gone through all this information haven't we! So much has already been found  Smiley

www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,365720.0.html

Apart from all the census information that was found, Wullie was kind enough to look at the actual entry on Scotlands People for the marriage of Elizabeth and Duncan:

The 1876 marriage shows the parents as Allan LIVINGSTON and Janet LIVINGSTON  MS  McINNES[S] , and Alexander McBRIDE and Isabella McBRIDE  MS  McALISTER.

You also have this link that was posted www.desmond-mcallister.info/Eng/Ancestors/aqwg386.htm#12751 which covers Elizabeth's family and ancestors. I do think that the birth showing on IGI for 1856 in Kilfinan is likely to be your Elizabeth's. Isabella McAlister's mother was Isabella McCallum which may explain this error. From everything that we know about the McBride family with the help of the above website, you also have the 1861 census:

Alexander McBrede 26, fisherman, b. Glasgow
Isabella McBrede 31
Elizabeth McBrede 5
Sarah McBrede 3
Margaret McBrede 2

Address: Deargbuaich Farm, Kilfinan

You have been lucky to find the family so well documented  Smiley
