Duncan MCINTYRE
« on: Wednesday 24 June 09 10:43 UTC (UK) »

hi all,

hope i have put this in the right spot. I am looking for my great grandfather Duncan MCINTYRE. All I know that he was born in Argyllshire and married a Mary LAMMOUND/LAMMAND/LAMMOND about 1870 (marriage). He could of come out to Australia at an early age. I would like to know of his mother and father, and of course, any brothers or sisters he may have had.

thanks in advance

Hi Legs

With Nanato's entry from IGI, the marriage cert is available to view on line at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It will include details on both their parents' names. There are also two children showing on IGI for a couple with these names:

1. MARY LAMONT MCINTYRE Birth: 19 AUG 1871 Middle-East-West Parishes, Greenock, Renfrew
2. DUNCAN MCINTYRE  Birth: 10 APR 1874 Kilfinan, Argyll

Because of the different counties, not sure if the two entries are connected to your couple.

If your Duncan had the trade of Blacksmith then that marriage is very likely the correct one.  Here is that same couple on the 1871 census still in Kilfinan...

Duncan McIntyre
23  years
born abt 1848
name of spouse : Mary
palce of birth: North Bute, Buteshire

Registration dist: Kilfinan
Civil parish: Kilfinan
County of Argyll
address: Mc Innes' Land

Household consists of:
Duncan McIntyre age 23, Blacksmith
Mary McIntyre age 24, Wife

now this is that same Duncan in 1851 with his family:

Duncan McIntyre
3 years
born abt 1848
son
name of father: William
name of mother: Agness
place of birth: Rothesay, Bute

Civil parish: Rothesay
Town: Rothesay
County of Bute

Household consists of:
William McIntyre age 40, head
Agness McIntyre age 28, wife
Catherine McIntyre age 13, dau
Ronald McIntyre age 9, son
Duncan McIntyre age 3, son
Betey McIntyre age 2, dau
Robt Mc Jadane age 41, visitor
Angus McKinnan age 40, visitor

and again in 1861 same family:

Duncan McIntyre
14 yeras
born abt 1847
son
father: William
Mother: Ann
place of birth: Parish of North Bute, Buteshire

Reg dist: Rothesay
Civil parish: Rothesay
Town: Rothesay
County of Bute
street address: 29 Mill Street

household consists of:
William McIntyre age 52, head
Ann McIntyre age 38, wife
Catherine McIntyre age 22, dau
Duncan McIntyre age 14, son
Elizabeth McIntyre age 11, dau
Agnes McIntyre age 9, dau
Margaret McIntyre age 6, dau
William McIntyre age 4, son
Louisa McIntyre age 11 Mos, dau

This appears to be the marriage of his parents from the IGI:
WILLIAM MACINTYRE
Spouse:  AGNES MACNEIL
Marriage:  21 NOV 1845
North Bute, Bute, Scotland

William and Agnes are still going strong in 1881...

reg. dist.: Rothesay
parish: Rothesay
county of Bute
street address: 32 Mill St

Household consists of:
William McIntyre age 67, head
Agnes McIntyre age 52, wife
Agnes McIntyre age 24, dau
Margaret McIntyre age 23, dau
Louisa McIntyre age 19, dau
Peter McIntyre age 17, son

Looks like your Duncan has plenty of sbilings for you to track down!!  Smiley

Best wishes
Jean
