seen it several times on ruthwell stuff some of these places no longer exist betty is on the same page as my 5x  grandfather george bell i wonder if he was an agricultural worker i csc

yes that is James  he married Ann Smith thats the two that died 2 /12/1848 of cholora
james Douglas father was David Douglas and his mother Jane Walker .David Douglas was born Ruthwell c1768 dont know anything about Jane Walker

I have another Johnson connection a virtue oliver Johnson married a William Little in dumfries 1828 she says she was born Manchester?
their Daughter Marion Little married John Douglas in 1856  the oldest son of James and Ann Smith he was the one that took the kids on after James and Ann died
