Birth, Walter Bone, Bet.1783-1792
« on: Wednesday 24 June 09 14:18 UTC (UK) »

I am still looking for the birth of Walter Bone, son of William Bone and Marrion Sandilands (I think).  Some records seem to indicate that he was born abt. 1792 whereas others indicate abt. 1783.  All sources indicate Dumfriesshire.  Walter emigrated to Canada in 1836.
Although I don't have a date of marriage, Walter married Mary Brown about 1808 as he had a daughter Janet on Nov 26, 1809. Mary Brown died Apr 10, 1826 and Walter remarried to Mary Pagan.
Also looking for marriage to Mary Brown.
Thanks for any help

Hi csc,
thank you for these dates.  Although I do have them, I am looking for the birth of Walter himself and his marriage date to Mary Brown, his first wife.

Hi Peggy,

I notice you had a few previous threads re Walter and family. Unfortunately it may be that there is no surviving birth (or baptism) record for him. There are various reasons why this may be. However, have you tried looking at different churches in the area that they may have attended? SP have only the Church of Scotland records pre-1855.

How would I find out what other churches might be in/near Crawfordjohn/Sandquhar/Wanlockhead abt. 1776-1810? I have found the births of the first 2 children of William Bone and Marrion Sandilands in Lanarkshire, then not Walter, William, and David, possibly Agnes, but Margaret is born back in Sandquhar and John in Crawford and Leadhills.  David was born in Wanlockhead so possibly Walter and William were as well.
Thanks for any help

Hi Peggy,

I've always used https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Main_Page to find other churches for each parish. Most give a date when they started, so you should be able to get a general idea of what there was. It's handy also as it gives the availability of records. Smiley
