This is the link to a thread on the Deciphering Board, about an address in Boston, Lincolnshire.
I think it is something like
Raby Hall near Hotham Bank ??
Is there anyone here from Boston who recognises this?
thank you!

Thank you!
Does Raby Hall or Irby Hall, Witham Bank ring any bells to anyone living in, or knowing Boston?
I shall do some experimental googling.

I have now found Irby Street, Boston, just on the banks of the Witham. Also convenient for the station, though not, I suspect, in 1840 when my great great great grandmother was giving birth to my great great aunt.
Thanks for everyone's interest.

Irby street is almost next to the signal box - and is indeed on the Witham Bank. Its a tiny little road, with a VERY low bridge under the railway. The Boston line opened in 1848, if that helps at all.

Thanks, that's interesting. I wonder what Irby Hall was? Sounds a bit larger than a cottage, which was what I was envisaging. I am only making the assumption that it was close to Irby Road, as I have no proof.
My 22year old greatx3 grandmother was the wife of a sailor - I can't find her or her husband on the 1841 Census - but I know she was in Boston for the birth of my great great aunt in June 1840.
I think by Census time in 1841 they were on their way to London - probably by sea - and my great great grandfather was born on the way and registered at landfall, or so family legend has it.
So they had departed Boston for the big smoke by the time that the railway opened in 1848.
