Hello Lis, I noticed that you have kindly offered to do look-ups for Ruckinge. Do you have a baptism for Ann Chittenden in about 1760, give or take a few years either way. Thank you very much. Regards, Brian

Hi Brian, Yes we have Ann Chittenden c 13/10/1752 d/ Thomas & Hannah
Thomas Chittenden m Hannah Kettle 9/10/1746
Thomas C c 22/5/1726 s / John & Elizabeth
John C m Elizabeth Woodburn 14/12 1714.
But there are many Chittenden families in the area. Would you like me to send my little database of these? As I too have this family in my tree.
Have you found the Chittenden site?
Oh and also born to Thomas & Hannah are James 19/3/1749/50
and William 18/4/1756
Do you want me to send all the Chittendens from Ruckinge?
all the best Lis

Hi Lis, Many thanks for your speedy reply. The connection I am researching is from Susannah Chittenden who wed George Bayley in Ruckinge in 1797. The IGI records a Susannah Chittenden born to Ann Chittenden (no father stated) in 1778, so presumably illegitimate. Is this the same Ann Chittenden who wed Richard Lockhurst in 1785? I have seen the www.chittenden.au site if this is the one you mean. I would be very interested in receiving the Chittenden info you have - very kind of you to offer. My email address is (*) Many thanks. Kind regards, Brian

Re message from lisingreece 14 Feb.
Thomas Chittenden who married Hannah Kettle 1746 is an ancestor of mine.
My research concluded that he was baptised 14/12/1718 at Ruckinge and that his parents were William Chittenden and Sarah Chittenden (nee Sheather).
This seems to be at variance with your information - I need to resolve!

Hi Cool69 I have no Baptisms in Ruckinge for 1718 so maybe this C is from the BT´s.
I am in Iceland until the end of June and then I will go to Canterbury and check the BTs for this birth.
There are more than 1 possibility for Thomas Chittenden birth however and its always hard to be certain we have the correct one.
I will be in touch later in June
All the best Lis

Hi Lis Many thanks fort prompt reply. The Thomas Chittenden I had as C Ruckinge 1718 is on the IGI at www.family search.org.uk. I now have three possibilities for the Thomas Chittenden who married Hannah Kettle in 1746 - (1)C Warehorne 1712, (2)C Ruckinge 1718, (3)C Ruckinge 1726. Anything you can do to help solve this would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Cool69

Ok, the 1718 birth is on the www.chittenden.au site with parents in Ruckinge of William and Sarah. I have searched my records and on this site and found no trace of a William marrying a Sarah at this time. Looking for similar christian names now in the families you have may help you decide which is the more likely Thomas. I doubt you will ever be able to "prove" this, but its fun trying. I will keep in touch all the best Lis
