Sittingbourne Cemeteries etc
« on: Wednesday 24 June 09 18:24 UTC (UK) »

Apart from churchyards and the Bell Road \Capel road cemetery does anyone know where burials took place in Sittingbourne (to include Milton Regis) in the period 1880 - 1920.

Thank you.

A related question.

Does anyone know when the Sittingbourne cremetorium started?

Hi David

Although both towns have had several churches in the past, very few have had graveyards. If someone from Sittingbourne or Milton Regis died around the period you mentioned, then they are most likely to have been buried at the Bell Road cemetery or Holy Trinity in Milton Regis.

If not there, then the next likely places are St Michaels in Sittingbourne, the Congregational church, aka Paradise Chapel, which was pulled down and the bodies buried in a mass grave at Bell Road, or one of the church from the nearby villages, i.e Bapchild, Bobbing, Murston...

As for the crematorium, it was built around 2003

Hope the above helps
