Hi Al
Not sure whether you have looked at the censuses for some background on William and Agnes. These look like the most obvious entries:
1851:
William Broomfield 41, Drystone Dike Bailder, b. Eccles Agnes Broomfield 34, b. Coldstream, Berwshire Adam Broomfield 11, b. Hutton, Berwshire James Broomfield 1, b .Hutton, Berwshire Broomfield under 1 Month, b. Chirnside, Berwshire
Town: Chirside, Chirnshire, Berwickshire
1861:
William Broomfield 52, Drystone Dyker Agnes Broomfield 44 Margaret Broomfield 19 James Broomfield 11 John Broomfield 8, b. Chirnside, Berwickshire William Broomfield 5, b. Bunkle, Berwickshire
Address: Old Ladykirk, Ladykirk
If William and Agnes died in Scotland, their death certificates should include full parents' details, including mothers' names, if known to the informant. All BMDs are available to view on line at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, pay to view but very reasonable. The birth entry that you have for William son shows in 1855, the first year of official reg. in Scotland. It should include, for that year only, where parents were born, ages, date and place of marriage, how many children they'd had (boy/girl, alive/deceased). Would certainly be worthwhile you looking at to confirm some background on them.

From your information on Excel's post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,256725.0.html, I see that Darling Broomfield is your line. This looks to be her in 1851:
Robert Darling 48, mason, b. Chirnside, Berw Shire Margaret Darling 38, b. Coldstream, Berw Shire * Darling Broomfield 4, niece b. Hutton Jane Darling 37, Pauper Nearly Blind, b. Chirnside, Berw Shire
* I wonder given the birth place for wife Margaret Darling she could be a sister perhaps to Agnes Melrose?
Darling in 1861:
Francis Melrose 33, ploughman b. Hutton Margaret Melrose 30, b. Coldingham, Berwickshire John Melrose 1, b. Hutton Infant 4 days , b. Hutton Darling Broomfield 14, visitor, , b. Hutton
Address: Meadow House Mains, Hutton
Monica
Added: Perhaps this entry, actual extract from the OPRs:
ROBERT DARLING and MARGARET MELROSE Marriage: 21 JUL 1837 Chirnside, Berwick, Scotland

Hi Al
Notice that the third child in your post had the surname hyphenated with WALKER. Had a look at IGI and found the following:
William BROOMFIELD, christened 19 Dec 1812 Kelso, Roxburgh. Father. David BROOMFIELD Mother. Anne WALKER
This may be the origin of the WALKER surname as mentioned above. The birthplace of William mentioned in the previous reply is shown as Eccles in the census. This is very close to Kelso so gives another link.
IGI also has an Agnes MELROSE, b.01 November 1816 at Coldstream, Berwick Father. John MELROSE Mother, Margaret MARSHALL
Birthplace is correct as per census details and following Scottish naming patterns the first daughter of William and Agnes was Margaret which would be the same as g.mothers.
Regards
Dex

Dex, that IGI entry could well connect with this 1851 census entry for daughter Elizabeth that Al showed born in 1843:
John Melrose 62, farm steward, Whitsome, Berwick Margt Melrose 68, b. Whitsome, Berwick Robert Melrose 32, b. Coldstream Fransis Melrose 23, b. Hutton... Likely the Francis that Darling was with in 1861 Margt Purves 11, granddaughter b. Hutton Elisabeth Purves 10, granddaughter b. Hutton Elisabeth Broomfield 8, granddaughter b. Hutton Agnes Melrose 20, niece, b. Edrom
Address: Sunwick, Hutton

Great photo Al
Scottish censuses are available on line either through Scotlands People on the link above. These are the original images. They are also available as transcripts only on subs at Ancestry.

Ev, that link to Worldconnect does seem to be the right one for the family don't you think
There is a possible entry on the censuses for William Broomfield's father which I've been looking at. Be back with that one!

If William and Agnes followed Scottish naming pattern, you would think his first born son would be called after his father 'Adam'. There is this possible entry in 1851:
Adam Broomfield 77, pauper, b. Eccles Alison Broomfield 41, daughter b. Eccles Adam Broomfield 6, grandson b. Stitchell, Roxburghsh George Gladston 17, visitor b. Yetholm, Roxburghsh
Address: Kimmergham Heugh, Edrom
William Broomfield's death cert will hopefully let you confirm.
I just realised that I left out daughter Margaret, aged 9, from the family's 1851 entry.

Possible submitted family tree showing on Ancestry for the Broomfield line showing parents as Adam Broomfield and Elizabeth Anderson. Only a few of the children show on this tree which seem to be following two potential siblings of William to Australia and their descendents there.
So far we have for William and Agnes (Melrose) the following early names for their children:
Adam c. 1840 - named after William's father? Margaret c. 1842 - named after Agnes' mother? Elizabeth c. 1843 - named after William's mother? Darling c. 1847 - named after the Darling family? James c. 1850 Unnamed baby 1851 John c. 1853 - named after Agnes' father William 1855 - named after father David 1857
These are some of the children showing on IGI for Adam Broomfield and Elizabeth Anderson - all entries in Eccles:
1. MARGARET BROOMFIELD Christening: 10 MAY 1796 2. AGNES BROOMFIELD Christening: 09 APR 1800 3. JANET BROOMFIELD Christening: 30 JUN 1802 4. JANE BROOMFIELD Christening: 07 JAN 1805 5. ELSEY BROMFIELD Christening: 27 NOV 1808 6. HARRIET BROOMFIELD Christening: 28 JUL 1811 7. ADAM BROOMFIELD Christening: 10 DEC 1813
No William though
Al, I think you will need to look at the death cert to verify his parents' names.
