Hi everyone, My GG Grandparents spent some time in NZ around 1870 and again in 1880. I need some help finding details. Mary Susannah Hansen was born in Riverhead, father listed as Phillip Hansen, farmer,we have her birth certificate. The Hansen's travelled to Australia in 1871 along with members of the Warnes family, these were Susannah's brothers and son from a previous marriage.
In 1880 I believe John Warnes travelled back to Auckland with Amelia Williams [ Susannah's daughter from another marriage] I think Amelia's son Angus williams may have been with them. Amelia and John had a daughter Emily Ann in NZ in 1880, there was another daughter Agnes Amy born around 1880, I cannot find where.
Confused? So am I, can you give me some websites to search? I have seen mention of a BDM site, can someone send me the link please.
Anything about Riverhead in the late 1870's? Shipping records leavving NZ?
Hoping I can get some ideas where to look. Thannks mum mum.
They came back to Australia in 1882 but I can't see what happened to Angus

HI again, My GG Grandparent, Susannah nee Warnes [Wornes] married Charles Phillip Hansen.
Daughter Mary Sussanah Hansen born Riverhead NZ 1870. [ have birth certificate]
Amelia Williams was Susannah Warnes daughter from 1st marriage. Amelia travelled to NZ in 1880 with John Wornes, [Susannah's brother] Amelia and John Wornes had a daughter Emily Ann in NZ in 1881. [ just checked that on the links you sent me]
Amelia's child Angus is listed on the New South Wales BDM as being born in 1978, father unknown. I m not even sure Angus was a boy or girl Agnes, BDM says Angus, one of the other relatives says Agnes was female.
I had a look for any deaths for a child of williams or Wornes but cant find anything. what I'm really after are ships records showing them coming into NEW Zealand in 1880 or leaving for Australia in 1882. mum mum

Thanks, I found them on the Mariners records, thats how I know they went to NZ. I was hoping that there was something similar there. I dont know NZ at all, I am presuming that Riverhead, where Mary Susannah was born is or was somewhere near Auckland, and that they returned to there in 1880. mum mum

Hi mum mum
Try a google search for "Riverhead New Zealand" ... (seems there might be a museum or such in, or nearby, which has pioneer records for the district ?).
You could also try our PapersPast website.
Good luck.

Thanks for that website, it actually gives me a hint. Charles Hansen and his daughter Mary both went on to be 'fruiterers', I think his brother may have been an orchardist here in Albury NSW.
I would guess that Charles, sometime around 1870 probably had an orchard of some sort. Why he left NZ I dont know. If you ever get the opportunity to find out anything about Hansen or Warnes between 1868 and 1882 in Riverhead please let me know. mum mum
