The mystery of the father being known as JOhn Wilson Williams sure confuses things, it was obviously no mistake, it was advertised in the New Zealander, interesting at the time before that there are sever al births for a Mrs John W WIlliams, and another mention of an 3 may 1854 marriage to Sarah Busby to John W Williams 5th son of Archdeacon H Williams
Have you ever explored that line?

Hi Althea

Yes, I have discounted this couple.... I found a death notice for an infant son of their dated 11 May 1864.  My John and Jane married in June 1864.  Doubt very much that Sarah would have died and John remarry in such a short period of time.
