Genealogy software - advice please
« on: Friday 09 October 09 03:21 UTC (UK) »

Hi All
I’m looking for easy to use genealogy software that will chart some complex relationships such as the one attached.  The single line disappearing off to the right leads to an illegitimate child by Mary Edwards who was a widow.  there are also children from the first and second marriages.
I recently downloaded a trial version of RootsMagic and Legacy – I must say Rootsmagic seemed easier to use but I can’t seem to create the relationship above in either of these two trial versions.  Maybe both can and I just haven’t worked it out yet ...

Also, does anyone know of charting software that will chart absolutely everyone – wife and father, children, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins etc?  I’d like to be able to print off the pages and then stick them together.
I drew the attached using PowerPoint but it can be time consuming, particularly when you have to move large chunks of family around to add others.

Advice from those who use genealogy software would be gratefully appreciated.
Ann

Hi Ann,

have a look at these two catalogue topics to find lots of topics on FH programs and presenting data.

Topic: RootsChat Topics: Organising and Presenting your Family History
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,158638.0.html

Topic: RootsChat Topics: Family History Software, Genealogy Programs
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,158637.0.html

There are several topics about trees in the first list.
Have a look at the "webspace board, too.

Although about websites, you may also find a few ideas here, as there are several topics about displaying trees, for instance:

Good luck,
