Hi Jan

Any chance you are going astray on generations?

These are children showing on IGI to an Alexander McLean and a Mary Cameron, all in STRATH which would fit with the later marriage of a daugther. Entries are a mixture of actual extract and submitted entries:

1. MARY MCLEAN  Birth: 12 DEC 1835/ Christening: 31 DEC 1835
2. ANN MCLEAN Birth: 26 MAR 1839/ Christening: 17 APR 1839
3. JANET MAC LEAN  Birth: 01 JAN 1846/ Christening: 15 FEB 1846
4. FLORA MAC LEANBirth: 01 JAN 1846/Christening: 15 FEB 1846
5. JAMES MCLEAN Birth: 10 APR 1849/ Christening: 27 APR 1849

What was the name of the daughter you have marrying in 1872 in Strath?

Monica  Smiley

Added: The 1871 birth for an Alexander McL in Strath shows parents as Alexander and mother as Ann McInnes.

Jan

Her age showed as 21 on the submitted marriage IGI entry, 27 fits better with that 1851 family  Smiley

Possible for the 9 yr old Alexander in the household in 1871:

ALEXANDER MACLEAN  Birth: 08 JUL 1872  Strath
Parents: MARY MACLEAN

Monica

Sorry Jan, meant the 1881 household!

Possible for the family in 1861. Not sure if Mary mother has been mistranscribed as Margaret on this entry:

Alexander McLean 57, shepherd
Margaret McLean 57, , b. Lochalsh, Ross
Mary McLean 25
Catharine McLean 16
Jessie McLean    14
James McLean    12

Address: Dunan, Strath

Closest I can see for 1871:

John McLean 35, fisherman
Catherine McLean 26, sister
Jessie McLean   24, sister

Address: Dunan, Strath

Hi All
I wondering now who was Alexander McLean parents
Living with Catherine McLean Grant
I got the census off ancestry and I said that Alexander McLean was a brother
and if Alexander and Mary was 57 in 1861 they seem a bit old to have a other two children in 1869 and 1871

Hi Jan and Elaine  Smiley

There is the entry for an Alexander McLean, the one I posted for 1872 with only mother Mary McLean showing.

There is also this other family headed up by an Alexander McL and an Ann McInnes. some of their children from IGI - births in Strath:

1. FINLAY MACLEAN Birth: 19 OCT 1868
2. ALEXANDER MACLEAN Birth: 29 APR 1871

Finlay above staying with grandparents in 1871 perhaps:

Archibald McLean 67, shoemaker
Ann McLean 58
Alex McLean 8, grandsn
Finlay McLean 2, grandson

Address: 8 xxx, Strath

There is this IGI birth entry to Alexander McL and Ann McInnes:

ALEXANDER MAC LEAN   Birth: 12 MAR 1863

Maybe there are two couples with these names  Huh Unless this child died immediately after this census and parents re-used name for the birth we have to a couple with the same names ( ALEXANDER MACLEAN Birth: 29 APR 1871 ). Census that year was on 2/3 April.

From 1881 - everyone born in Strath:

Alex McLean 44, fisherman
Anne McLean 46
Alex McLean 18 - son
Peggy McLean 15
Finlay McLean 12
Alex McLean 9 - son
Marion McLean 7

Jan, not sure if this family group are connected to your Catherine?!
