Spitalfields Christ Church marriage Champneys/Taylor 1829
« on: Monday 14 September 09 21:15 UTC (UK) »

I wondered if anyone had access to these parish records.  IGI shows the marriage of Weldon Champneys (or Champness) to Sarah Taylor on 25th January 1829.  I am very interested in additional details such as state of each of them single, widower etc, witnesses and the person performing the ceremony as a number of the Champneys were in the church.

I would be very grateful for any help here.  Thanks.

Hi Pentangle

Having looked at the register I can see how the confusion arises over the spelling of the surname.

a double ss used to be written with a long s then 'normal sized' s, a long s can be mistaken in this case for a y, it's usually mistaken for an f

From the marriage register Chist Church Spitalfields

Weldon Champness of this parish a bachelor
and Sarah Taylor of this parish a spinster
were married in this church by banns
this 25th day of January in the year 1829
by me Thomas Gregory Off~ Minister (shorthand for Officiating)
This marriage was solumnized between us
William Champneys (or ness) (signed his name)
The mark X of Sarah Taylor
in the presence of
Charles Champneys (or ness) (signed his name)
? Lindon (signed their name
