The Elms, Sydenham Hill, Kent

I have an ancestor who died at The Elms, Sydenham Hill, Kent.  Is anyone aware of this place? The Ancestor was George Augustus Bedford. He was a Vice Admiral in the Navy. Married Eleanor and I know of a son, Edwin Bedford. George died 11 feb 1879.

I had a look on www.multimap.com  Sydenham Hill is in the outskirts of London (Kent/Surrey borders). There was no "The Elms" any longer. A lot of the houses seem to have been converted into flats. Several houses had names and then flats 1-"N" listed.

Maybe an 1881 lookup by address would tell you if this was a private home/nursing home at that time.
