Nathaniel Jacob
« on: Thursday 25 June 09 15:08 UTC (UK) »

I thought Nathaniel was born in Sussex. But according to the 1841 census he wasn't born in Sussex. I have been looking for him for ages without any luck. He was born about 1767 and married a lady called Lucy Taylor in 1827 in Frant Sussex. I was wondering if he was born in Kent and would appreciate any help in finding his parents. Poppyann

What does the marriage record give for his residence?
What names witnessed the 1827 marriage?

Hi Pauline, I am sorry but I think I had a senior moment. Nathaniel married a lady called Elizabeth about 1794 and could have been in the Frant area. It was his son Thomas that maried Lucy in 1827. Regards Poppyann

So you are looking for a baptism Of Nathaniel Jacob.
Start with his kids: (when where who) and then try to locate that marriage to see what is given there.

Hi Pauline, thanks for your ideas. All Nathaniels children were born in Frant Sussex. On the 1841 census it says that Nathaniel wasn't born in Sussex, but so far I have been unable to find his baptism. He was buried in Frant in 1849 so was unable to find him on the 1851 census. Regards Poppyann

Many thanks for the info Casalguidi. I do have info on these children but I thought they came from Frant. I am still looking for the parents of Nathaniel born about 1767 but according to the 1841 census he wasn't born in Sussex. Poppyann

Frant was mostly in Sussex but partly in Kent and adjoining Speldhurst see http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/Location/01.htm and seeing as Nathaniel and Elizabeth don't appear to have married in Sussex it's wise to assume that there were quite possibly earlier children baptised elsewhere ie. Nathaniel junior in Speldhurst.

There was an Adam & Maria JACOB from the Speldhurst/Tunbridge Wells area who also moved to Frant at some stage so there's a good chance that they are related.  Adam born c1780 see your other post http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,338997.msg2286843.html#msg2286843

There is also an Adam and Mary (see monumental inscriptions on your other post mentioned above) who could be the parents of Adam junior.  Adam senior died c1818 and was also a victualler/publican according to a  PCC will downloadable from the National Archives for a fee (I am assuming that this is probably the same man as the one for the MI in Frant).  Could he be Nathaniel's father or even brother/uncle?  Might any will mention Nathaniel?
