Inquest into Nelson death 1900
« on: Thursday 25 June 09 21:28 UTC (UK) »

Hi there I am trying to find out if there was ever an inquest into the deaths of James Alexander KELLOR and his wife Mary Ellen KELLOR nee COPPELL.

They drowned on 1 January 1900 after a boating accident at "The Croixelles"

Now I am not sure if I am allowed to write out the article from the Nelson Evening Mail dated 2 January 1900, 3 January 1900 and 6 January 1900.

I see on Archway there is a probate for James Alexander KELLOR held in Wellington from the Nelson High Court.

Kellor, James Alexander     1900 - 1900
Agency
AAOO
Series
17072
Accession
W5410
Box/Item
42
Record
495
From the newspaper article it says the bodies were never recovered.
I have searched for a death on-line BMD but no luck.

How would one go about get a death certificate issued for them since there is not one at all.

Are you NZSG member? email the research team and ask for a lookup, they are only too happy to
Bye
Althea

Maybe that its just the article that you have, I just looked at papers past and the colonist ones all seem to say same thing, that bodies weren't found

Hello newbe,

I have come across a references to George Coppell in Takaka 1878.
If you want more details on the family, it might pay to email local museum
goldenbaymuseum@xtra.co.nz

Cheers

Thanks for that JohnB

I have quite a bit of info on the family but it won't hurt to find out more.

I would love to visit the area one day as I have never been there.
